Oxford Walking Tours Reviews

Great Family Tour

Brilliant tour! Our guide Iain was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. The tour was well paced and informative – even our two teens enjoyed it – thank you! Vacation403100

 Iain rocks

Iain was a fantastic tour guide. I’m glad we had the opportunity to explore Oxford with such a knowledgeable and spirituous gentleman. Alexandre C.

Excellent Guide

Iain was an excellent guide for the student life tour. As a graduate of Jesus College, he related his own experiences and explained what makes an Oxford education unique. He asked me about my specific interests and provided information related to those interests. Highly recommended! Grier W.

Interesting and Amusing

Thank you to Iain who gave us an interesting and amusing 2hr walking tour of Oxford on 06/10/2023. The time flew by, which is always an indicator of a good time. I would thoroughly recommend booking onto one of these tours – and getting Iain if you are lucky! Lisa L.

Great Tour

Iain is an outstanding guide. As an Oxford graduate, he shares historic facts, describes students’ life and how the intricate university functions. And if like us, English is not your first language, his perfect diction and tempo will allow everyone to follow and participate. Eric F

Iain really knew his stuff

Tour the next day led by the knowledgeable Iain which lasted approx 1 hr 45 mins. Myself and my wife were in a tour group 7 which was a good size for the tour guide to interact with all and get involvement while on the tour. Iain really knew his stuff as he graduated from Jesus College and relayed this as we went through the tour. The information was very clearly explained but with humour thrown in. The walking tour was completed at a decent pace but with regular stops it did not tire out any of the party. Would throughly recommend this tour and Iain as a tour guide (just don’t mention the C word to him, he prefers to call it the “other place” :-)) Dhermesh P

Great guide makes for a great tour

Iain, our guide couldn’t be more funnier. Kept us all laughing throughout with a lot of impromptu wisecracks. We were not an easy group and asked a lot of questions and he was patient throughout.
Iain kept a good pace throughout. We saw a few colleges and caught a bit of history about the university along the way. Puneet G

Fantastic insightful and entertaining 1,5 h walking tour through Oxford

Started along the ‘Degree Day’ celebrations at the Sheldonian Theatre on to Wadham College, with lots of information about how the college/university system works and entertaining stories ‘behind the scene’, then on to Bodleian Library, Radcliff Camera over to ‘Jesus College’, The Covered Market and Carfax Tower, so lots of sights within a nice walking distance. Many thanks to Iain (with 2 ‘i’) for this great guided tour! 20Ella13

Fantastic Tour, Even More Fantastic Tour Guide! Jul 2023

I went on the City of Oxford Walking Tour with the Radcliffe Camera option. Iain, our tour guide, was so great, he gets three thumbs up on top of this tour getting two thumbs up. The “Rad Cam” library is stunning. Being inside incredibly historic buildings such as that and the Divinity School is just too cool. Iain is quite personable, has a great sense of humor, is very knowledgeable of all the sites we saw and didn’t see, answered all of our questions, kept everything at a perfect pace, and made the tour pure enjoyment. I would go on any tour he leads and highly recommend going on any of the Bodleian Library tours. Nicki C whose photo of the Divinity School is below.

Nice style

Iain was our guide. He had a nice style and knew the answers to all of our questions. He gave us a great insight into Oxford University and how it first began and how it operates today. The buildings we saw were beautiful and fascinating. He also kept us on our toes by asking us questions as we went along to see what we had taken in! An excellent guide. Worth every penny.” Lesley H.

Very funny

“Excellent quality and entertaining! Our guide Iain was a wealth of information and Very entertaining. He made the tour lively, fun, interactive and shared information in a way that was engaging and related it to your experience. Highest marks!” Lightpacker

Brilliant

“Absolutely brilliant from start to finish with lots of Q and A to keep us all on our toes. Iain was very knowledgeable about the town and the university (he did attend Jesus College himself) and he kept the various ages and nationalities all engaged. Witty, entertaining and most enjoyable: so i would highly recommend it for learning a lot about Oxford in just 90 minutes.” Nick O.

Fantastic

“Fantastic tour. We are a family of three, with one teenager. We did the tour with Iain, who is very knowledgeable and encouraged lots of questions from us. His knowledge of the university and the colleges is amazing. If he kept our 14 year old engaged and interesed, there’s no better review than that. Thanks Iain.” Stephanie E.

Outstanding

“We had a great Tour through Oxford our Tour Guide (Iain) did an oustanding job! It is obvious that Iain loves the city and we really enjoyed the Tour. A thoroughly good introduction to this beautiful city!” Thomas F.

Responsive

“A great walking tour. We really enjoyed our walking tour with Iain. He was very knowledgeable and responsive to our interests. Things that we would not have noticed were pointed out to us and explained in an interesting and engaging way. Highly recommended.” DD.

Entertaining

“The best 2 hours of our trip to Oxford! On a very grey, chilly April morning Iain was our knowledgeable, entertaining guide. A graduate of Jesus, Oxford he enthralled us with his insider knowledge and of course first hand experiences. We came away with a much better understanding of this amazing institution and felt extremely privileged to have had Iain guide the three of us around part of this wonderful city.” Peter J.

Informative

“Took this tour today with Iain, who actually had “read” (studied) at one of Oxford’s colleges. It was so informative, as well as entertaining. I had originally thought we didn’t need a tour, that we could read our guidebooks. But my friend insisted we take a tour and I am really glad we did. Learned so much from Iain, much of it that was not in our guidebooks.” ILoveGrey

Savvy

“Walking tour with Iain. Our guide was very savvy and took the time to answer all our questions on Oxford University and Colleges. We learned a lot. This walking tour is a must if you visit Oxford. We really recommend it. 5 stars.” LParoundtheworld

Remarkable

“This was a remarkable tour, particularly due to our tour guide Iain. He was very engaging and was able to share information in a way that was accessible. He was also a big advocate of the “other university” in England.” Adren A

Adept

“We were a large cosmopolitan group of 16. Our tour was made all the more interesting by the adept way Iain engaged each party in turn with humour and interest and keep us interested throughout. We learned from one another’s questions about the complexity, ceremony and pageant of University college life, brought home to us by an Oxford graduate who knew both the University and city inside out. We also greatly enjoyed his punting tour on a lesser known stretch of the river on another occasion.” Mary N.

Knowledgeable

“We visited Oxford for the day yesterday, celebrating my husband’s birthday. One of the highlights was the walking tour with Iain, a graduate of Jesus college, who was very knowledgeable, explaining so much about Oxford University – we now understand the collegiate system, which had been a mystery to us.

We passed several colleges on our tour, visited Keble College, including the stunning chapel, and the 2 hours passed extremely quickly.

We live just along the Thames from Oxford and know that with what we learned on today’s walking tour we’ll enjoy visiting Oxford much more on future visits I highly recommend this walking tour wth Iain, who spoke very clearly and enlightened the group with a great deal of information in an entertaining way, answering the many questions fully.” gardengirlie
