Premium Oxford University Tour

Welcome to my very special Oxford University tour, with all entry fees included as well as lunch in an Oxford restaurant dating back to the mid 1200s.

This select Oxford walking tour focuses on the University and student life, and will suit the visitor who wants to dive deeper into the Oxford experience than other more superficial tours.

It’s also ideal for prospective Oxford University students and their families.

You’ll benefit from my personal insights and perspective about applying to Oxford, how to choose a college, and student life when you get here.

Oxford University Tour

Enjoy a personal, small group (maximum 8 people) experience in the engaging company of a graduate of Jesus College.

Smaller tours are better tours for a more intimate, personalised adventure.

On this Oxford University tour we explore in greater depth the mystique of Oxford, much more so than traditional tours, to show you what life as an Oxford undergraduate is really like.

You’ll hear my authentic stories about Oxford’s people, culture, and history, and of course you’ll see along the way the University’s most iconic sites and landmarks.

Join me for an insider’s perspective of the Oxford “bubble” not available through other tour guides.

Itinerary

Starting at 1030am we head to Jesus College, where I was an undergraduate student of Modern Languages. Here I will describe how Oxford works, including of course the unique collegiate system, the gruelling applications and admissions process, and what Oxford student life is really like living in College.

We also visit the central complex of University buildings, Sir Christopher Wren’s Sheldonian Theatre, the Bodleian Library including entry into the magnificent medieval Divinity School, a 540 year old awesome architectural masterpiece.

And of course Radcliffe Square with the instantly recognisable Radcliffe Camera, flanked by the colleges of Brasenose, Exeter, Hertford, and All Souls.

Not forgetting the University Church of St Mary the Virgin with its magnificent 14th century spire.

After a short cut through Logic Lane and University College (the oldest, 1249) we pass by Merton College (Tolkien, TS Eliot), before heading up Magpie Lane en route to lunch.

We arrive at Gusto Italian in The High at about 1245pm.

Summary

This friendly, fun, and fascinating tour takes you into the heart of the the world’s greatest university.

All in the engaging company of a current Master of Arts of Oxford University (MA Oxon).

Many an Oxford University tour is led by outsiders with limited familiarity, knowledge of, and passion for this great university.

Learn from someone who has experienced life as an undergraduate here, with all the unique, authentic “local’s-eye-view” insights and personal stories which that means.

I look forward to welcoming you to this captivating city and hope that after the tour you will agree with the poet WB Yeats:

“I wonder anybody does anything at Oxford but dream and remember, the place is so beautiful.”

The Premium Oxford University Tour – Authentic personal stories from a former Oxford undergraduate.

“Iain was a constant source of information about the history, traditions, current practices and future of Oxford University, as well as a great conversationalist, and we left with a much deeper understanding of the place and its people. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough.” andrewc

“The walking tour is really worth doing. Iain our guide attended Jesus College in the 1970s so was able to give us a personal insight to the university, he was very knowledgeable about the history of Oxford University and took time to explain the workings of the uni. We were lucky to be there as the students graduated – so many happy post grads and proud parents especially after the suspension of these events during Covid. Many thanks Iain.” mummybreak.

“Iain was fantastic! Everything you want in a guide. He is naturally funny, very knowledgeable and engaged with the group. He created a very open space that all conversations and questions were welcome. I would recommend that everybody book the University Tour.” Dan T
